Description
Bronze coin of ancient Lissos (Lissus), today Lezhë in Albania. The obverse shows the head of the goddess Artemis facing left, with a diadem and hair gathered at the back; the reverse shows a winged thunderbolt, the symbol of Zeus, with the partly preserved legend ΛΙΣΣΙΤΑΝ — “of the Lissitans”, the people of Lissos.
The type belongs to the Hellenistic period; the IRIS catalogue dates it to 270–219 BC, and Michael Kleu discusses other datings. Lissos lies on the coast south of Ulcinj.
The 3D model was made after photographs of a specimen of this type: obverse and reverse were modelled separately, in full relief, and joined into a two-sided coin. The model is a faithful three-dimensional rendering of the type, not a measured survey of the specimen; the relief height is emphasised for legibility. For 3D printing, obverse and reverse were prepared as separate models.
